FIRST DAY: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA

 

Pick up from your hotel and then go on a bus to Piscacucho located at kilometer 82 (2,800 m / 9,186 ft), on the way we will pass through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, through the towns of Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, here we will make a small stop to have breakfast and be able to buy some supplies for the walk.

 

Then continue to Piscacucho. or Km. 82, we will organize all our equipment to start the trek. In this first part of the way, we will arrive at Miskay (2,800 m / 9,186 ft), from there we will begin to ascend towards a small mountain where we will be able to see a beautiful landscape and an Inca construction called Patallacta, at 2,750 m / 9,022 ft, in this place we can observe some terraces of crops, urban centers, religious centers. After this stop, continue towards Tarachayoq 2,800 m / 9,186 ft. Where is our lunch point.

 

After lunch continue through an area full of vegetation where it is very likely to observe a variety of flora and fauna, after walking 2 hours we will arrive at our first camp located in the area of Huayllabamba at 3,000 m / 9,842 feet Huayllabamba is a small population surrounded by fields of corn, potato crops and other products, here we will have our first camp.

 

DISTANCE: 12 KMS / 7.42 MILES

TIME 7 HOURS

 

SECOND DAY: WAYLLABAMBA – AYAPATA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYO
 

This day we will begin to ascend the Warmihuañusca pass, we will begin our walk with a gradual climb towards the Ayapata Valley which will take 1 hour to arrive. From there we will walk along the original Inca trail this part of the way to the pass or more point high will be uphill with steps or stairs and a path full of vegetation that will take us through a cloud forest to reach Llulluchapampa 3,800 m / 12,467 ft, where we will have our lunch.

 

After lunch will be 2 hours more to the top where we will have a beautiful view of the landscape, from there we will continue walking 2 hours more until the Warmihuañusca Pass, Quechua name meaning “dead woman pass”, 4,200 m / 13,779 ft, arriving at this point we can appreciate all the way we traveled and a beautiful view of the Andean snow and landscapes. Then we will begin to descend to our campsite Pacaymayu (3,600 m / 11,811 ft), 2 hours the way will be down, flat, downstairs where our Tea time and dinner waits for us.

THIRD DAY: PACAYMAYO – RUNKURAKAY – SAYAQMARCA – CHAKICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA
 

This is one of the most beautiful day, we will see Inca constructions along the way. After a nutritious breakfast we will start our hike ascending upstairs. We will go to the second pass where the impressive archaeological remains of Runkuracay (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) are located. From where we will have a beautiful view of the Andes and continue until we reach Sayaqmarca (3,600 m / 11, 811 ft), “The dominant village “1:30 hours where we will appreciate interesting Inca ruins, and we will have a panoramic view of the Aobamba Valley.

 

During the tour you will pass through Conchamarka, a small archaeological site recently discovered. After, we will arrive to our lunch point called Chaquicocha, then we will walk for one beautiful path to Phuyupatamarca, we will walk up and down and we will find a tunnel in the rock, 1:30 hrs until we reach the third and last Pass where our camp will be there, from where we can see the Archaeological Site of Phuyupatamarca (3,665 m / 12,024 ft), “Town covered with clouds”, which is one of the most original citadels along the Inca Trail. It is located on the edge of a mountain. Here we will find many terraces and ceremonial fountains and a wonderful landscape

 

DISTANCE: 9 KMS / 6.21 MILES

TIME: 7 HOURS

 

FOURTH DAY: PHUYUPATAMARCA – WIÑAYWAYNA – INTIPUNKU – MACHUPICCHU
 

After breakfast we will continue descending to the Archaeological Site of Phuyupatamarca (3,665 m / 12,024 ft), after visiting this place we will descend around 3,000 stairs until we reach Wiñaywayna (2,700 m / 8,858 ft), 3 hours which means “Forever Young “, but before to arrive there we will pass through one Archaeological Site called Intipata (Place of the Sun) where we can appreciate the Torontoy valley and the sacred river of the Incas (Urubamba).

 

Arriving at our lunch point (This will be the last part where we will see the cook and porters and  we will say thank so much, see you, bye bye, chau chau… to everyone for sharing this beautiful experience with the group.

After lunch we will visit one of the most beautiful archaeological site Wiñaywayna or Machupicchito (little Machupicchu).and then we will go to the control of Wiñaywayna, passing the control we will walk for 1:30 hours and we arrive to Intipunku or Sun Gate (2,490 m / 8,169 ft). It is an excellent opportunity to take panoramic pictures of the citadel of Machu Picchu in the distance. Starting the walk after lunch will arrive just before sunset, this is perhaps the best place and time to contemplate the majestic splendor of Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas.

 

Then we will descend for 1 hour to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, where we will have a free time so that you can enjoy this wonder of the world. Then we will go down by bus to Aguas Calientes (2,160 m / 7,087 ft), where the hotel waits for us, a hot shower and dinner at a tourist restaurant.

TIME: 8 HOURS

 

FIFTH DAY: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO
 

In the morning we will take the  bus, takes 30 minutes to the Machupicchu Sanctuary. Then we will have our guided tour for about 2 hours where the guide will take us through the most important places of the citadel, after our visit there is a other option is to go up to Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain (not included) to be able to appreciate the impressive view of the whole Machupicchu. after take a bus going down to Aguas Calientes. Where you can take your lunch. Finally, you will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo for 2 hours where a transfer waits for you and then 2 hours by bus to Cusco
