FIRST DAY. – CUSCO – CALCA – LARES – QUISWARANI – LAGUNA AZUL

 

Pick up from your hotel 5 a.m. towards the thermal baths of Lares 2300 m / 10120 ft. 3 hours by bus arriving at this beautiful place we will have our first breakfast and then enjoy the pools that have a temperature of 25 ° C / 77 ° F to 45 ° C / 113 ° F are volcanic medicinal waters for stress, muscles and bones. After this place we will take the bus again for 20 minutes towards the start of this walk called Pampa Corral 3450 m / 10390 ft. The first part of the trail will be uphill for 1 hour along a path used by local people, finding varieties of native plants and medicinal plants and potato fields, come in the Quiswarani Community 3750 m / 12303 ft. Where we will take our lunch and meet our muleteers and horses, after lunch we will continue our trek to our campsite Laguna Azul (Blue Lagoon) 3900 m / 12795 ft. 1.5 hours the trail are passing close by some beautiful waterfalls called Canchispaccha (seven waterfalls) arriving at the camp will be ready and after our tea time and dinner.

DISTANCE: 8 KM / 4.9 MILES

TIME: 7 HOURS

 

 SECOND DAY. – LAGUNA AZUL – PASO DEL CONDOR – ACOPATA – CANCHA CANCHA

 

After breakfast we will start to climb to the highest point of this hike, 4 hrs gradual uphill and zigzag where we can appreciate beautiful lagoons, wonderful landscapes of the Andes, glaciers and flora and fauna of the area, come in the Condor Pass 4650 m / 15091 ft. Where we will make a small ceremony in honor of the mountains or Apus (spirit of the mountains) then we will begin descending towards our lunch point 2 hours called Acopata 3900 m / 12795 ft, on the way we can see llamas and alpacas grazing freely. Then we will continue walking towards our camp 1.5 hours called Cancha Cancha 3700 m / 12139 ft, which is a community of farmers, alpaqueros and llameros (breeders of alpacas and llamas) where our camp will be ready our tea time and dinner.

DISTANCE: 12 KM / 7.45 MILES

TIME: 8 HOURS

 

THIRD DAY. – CANCHA CANCHA – HUARAN – OLLANTAYTAMBO 

 

After one good breakfast we will continue to Huaran 2700 m / 8858 ft. Where will be our lunch point, on the way we can appreciate variety of flora and fauna, the way will be inside a beautiful forest of queñuas (polylepis incana) we will descend towards the sacred valley of the Incas the climate will change from the cold of the Andes towards the warm valley into the mountains, once arriving in Huaran we will take our lunch and then we will take our transportation to Ollantaytambo 2450 m / 8038 ft. Where will be your accommodation. After to arrive to Ollantaytambo, if you want you can walk the town that is an alive museum city since the Inca constructions are inhabited until today, then we will take our dinner  and get ready for the next day.

DISTANCE: 9 KM / 5.59 MILES

TIME: 5 HOURS

 

FOURTH DAY: OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 104 CHACHABAMBA – WIÑAYWAYNA – SUNGATE –
MACHUPICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES

 

Pick up from your hotel and walking for 10 minutes to the train station in Ollantaytambo  and we will go by train for 1: 10 hrs to Km 104 or Chachabamba 2250m/7,310ft. When we will arrive, you need to show your ticket and passport and we start to walk.

From there we start walking towards Wiñaywayna for 3 hours, we will go through an archeological site called Chachabamba where the name of the place comes from, the way will be up and flats, up and down, upstairs downstairs, part of the way will be inside the forest and others in  open areas that walks through the rain and cloud forest, thus reaching the archaeological site of Wiñaywayna 2666m/8,740ft.  We will appreciate  terraces, urban sector, ceremonial fountains, religious places. Where there is an explanation about this place.

After the explanation we will go to the checkpoint where we need to show the tickets again and we will take the lunch which consists a Box Lunch which provided to you at the beginning of the trail. After the lunch we continue to walk towards Intipunku or Sun Gate 2745m/9000ft. the path will be throught the cloud forest up and down. Arriving to Sun Gate (Intipunku) where we will have a wonderful view of Machupicchu in the distance.

From Sun Gate to Machupicchu we will walk 40 minutes, arriving where is the classic photo of Machu Picchu 2400m/7800ft. Time to take all the photos than you want, after we will going down outside of Machupicchu where is the bus station take a bus for 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes Town 2200m/7,200ft. Where will be your accommodation and dinner.

TIME: 7 HOURS

 

SECOND DAY: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

 

 In the morning we will take the  bus, takes 30 minutes to the Machupicchu Sanctuary. Then we will have our guided tour for about 2 hours where the guide will take us through the most important places of the citadel, after our visit there is a other option is to go up to Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain (not included) to be able to appreciate the impressive view of the whole Machupicchu. after take a bus going down to Aguas Calientes. Where you can take your lunch. Finally, you will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo for 2 hours where a transfer waits for you and then 2 hours by bus to Cusco.
